highway one

Let's see. We left off in San Fran. After we kissed the city goodbye, we started our drive down the coast. First stop, the Boardwalk at Santa Cruz.
It was our first touch of sand and ocean in California.

The Boardwalk was a quick stop. Beach, check. Ferris Wheel, check. Dippin' Dots, check and check.  Lunch was next. We drove down to the Wharf in Monterey.

From our table we could see these babies napping in the sun.
We spent the afternoon on the 17 mile drive, through Pebble Beach to Carmel-by-the-Sea for the night. (How charming is a city-by-the-Sea? I simply cannot refer to it any other way. After we buy that house in San Francisco, I'd like to retire here)
These views were breathtaking, even through the clouds and wind. The cliffs into the deep green ocean, sigh. The ocean water seemed to change colors at every stop, beautiful.

Our second day ended at a sweet Inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea, with some pizza ordered in, a bottle of wine (or two) and meeting new friends in the hot tub. We apparently met the writer of the Nashville show, before it was "Nashville," she was from LA and I think a liar, but hey, cool if she really was!
