episdode seven

yikes, I'm behind... but this week's episode was super fun. I think I subconsciously skipped the last couple of weeks, cause they were a total yawn.

But here's a really really really pretty kitchen, from this week's challenge.

This popped up on the screen and Blake immediately claimed it looked like me. I'll take that.

Yellow is such a weird color for me. I love it when I see it all bright and happy like in this kitchen, but when I try to use yellow in my home, it always comes out more muted, more mustard-like.

So, I love it. It's just plain pretty (though it looks kind of like something in a model home). I would have tried to add more of a darker contrast color, but I guess that's what the floors are there for. Also, those back-splash frames, I could do without.

My friend, Hilari, made the top 4 - she didn't do this room, but she still made it through! yippee!

episode 3

They designed the Kardashian's new office in pairs. So glam. Sparkles everywhere.

Not the best, but still a fav - Hilari, and Danielle. But, mostly Hilari. I think really I just want her to have her own reality show. I want to watch her at home, in Dallas, with her kids, designing around town.

Bottom of my top 3 rooms. The kitchen.

Their light fixture was amazing. I loved the cabinetry, and the horizontal stripe wall, and ya can't go wrong with grays right now.

 Next, number 2 of the my top 3. The office. The most inspiring part of the room was probably the desk placement and the arched windows.

for some reason the judges loved the "tennis bracelet" on the wall. yuk. never.

 mmm.. wallpaper. Also, I'm dying over the white vases, and the flowers they chose. THE BIG WHITE DESK!!

 

I love this show.

episode two.

The White Room challenge.

For the most part, minus 2 or 3 rooms, I thought this episode was genius. Sure, some execution details didn't live up to what one would expect from professional designers, but it was still so inspiring to see the creativity!

My Favorite. I'm such a sucker for navy, and I'm dying to (in our next home) use more red in decorating. Love the "molding" and that wood art piece. You can't really see in this photo, but that gold chain chandelier is actually kind of beautiful.

And then, my friend, Hilari. I really like her and her ideas, but the judges weren't diggin' the room.

 It's only episode 2 - so she has some time, but, I'm totally rooting for her.

Her room turned out to be fabulousness meets Tiffanys, but I don't hate it.

YIKES. The judges kinda loved it. I'm obviously missing something.

And then, this room....

stayed in the competition over this one....

Definitly the bottom 2 rooms, but the top room and designer should have gotten the boot, in my opinion. But, I'm sure Vern and Genevieve know what they're doing.

Can't wait for episode 3 - looks like some drama!

episode one

Now that American Idol is over and my AI crush totally took home the winner's title, I can now switch my attention and efforts over to Design Star, oh, and SYTYCD of course.

Sometimes I think I could do what they do, especially Hilari Younger, I mean, she's from Dallas, didn't go to school for design, she's a self-employed contractor and interior stylist. After episode one, she's kinda my favorite, mostly because she didn't go to school for this and I love her personality.

The room (Hilari and Rachel) is natural, which I love. That small TV and those tiny black shelves are really awful. Why do people still use these tiny shelves on huge wall spaces? And, why didn't the black color behind the moose head go all the way to the ceiling?

Britany and Mikel - looks like West Elm to me... but, love that lattice wall.

Danielle and Luca. Something feels off to me. Too much white? Not enough contrast in the color scheme? That art is hung weirdly high? But, for some reason - I don't hate it. If I were given this dinosaur of a room, I would have just cried and walked out... forfeit.

Bex and Kris. Too "out of the box and I know it" for me, and that's too bad, cause they're both from Texas!

and then Yuki and Stanley's creation came on the TV

and Blake and I simultaneously started making vomiting/hacking noises. Whyyyyy?? I'm pretty sure there's no way I would make it past the first cut for Design Star, but I do know to never paint one room pea green and barney purple. And NEVER make a "collage" of trash and graffiti and hang it on the wall. CMON!
